How to move past the 'subtitle crutch' for Afrikaans TV?

I’ve been watching a lot of local dramas to move from beginner to intermediate, but I find myself eyes-glued to the English subtitles instead of listening to the Afrikaans audio. My brain just refuses to process the audio without the safety net. Does anyone have a strategy for weaning off the text and actually training my ears to pick up the speed of native Afrikaans speakers?
