Moving from 'buku teks' to real speed: How do I stop buffering?

I’ve been learning Indonesian for about a year, but I’ve hit a wall where I can read news sites comfortably but freeze up the moment a sentence hits me at natural speed. I have trouble keeping up with the 'dropping prefixes' habit (like 'meng-' becoming nothing). I've started using Chickytutor.com to practice rapid-fire conversation drills, but does anyone have tips for training my brain to stop translating word-for-word so I can actually join a conversation?
