Why do I keep forgetting to drop the absolutive suffix before adding possession?

Posted by u/Intermediatelearne_750 / May 30, 2026

I’m getting frustrated with my grammar exercises. Every time I try to say 'my house' or 'my dog,' I keep accidentally leaving the -tl or -tli ending on the noun. I know the rule logically, but it feels so unnatural to cut the word short. Does anyone have a mnemonic or a specific drilling technique that helped them internalize dropping the absolutive ending when applying possessive prefixes in Nahuatl?
