Struggling to reconcile formal textbook Telugu with the Telangana dialect my in-laws use

I’ve been learning Telugu through apps for months, but when I visit my spouse's family in Hyderabad, I feel like I'm speaking a completely different language. The verb endings in their Telangana dialect seem to drop or shift compared to what I study. How can I bridge this gap without offending them or sounding like a robotic textbook?
